When To Replace Infant Equipment
We use so many different pieces of equipment for our children, that knowing when to replace items before they ‘look’ worn can be difficult. A lot of the equipment that is used for infants must be changed when it still looks new so learning the appropriate times for replacing it is important.
One of the easy ways of checking furniture is to follow the manufacturers suggestions regarding maintenance, repair, and replacement. The manufacturer will often have a list of things to look for that may not be easily apparent which indicate that the furniture needs to be replaced.
There are many gifts received at showers before a baby is born. One type of gift that is commonly given if a Graco car seat. When the seat is new and in the box, it will usually have manufacturers instructions included that discuss the length of time that the seat will be appropriate for the child. However, if you have a seat that is not made to adapt from a front facing to a rear facing position, it will be necessary to purchase a new seat with the child is one year old or weighs at least twenty pounds.
A baby bath tub is another gift that is often given during a show. These tubs are often shaped like boats and require that the child in laid in the water on their back. For many infants this position, and the water, are frightening and do not create a good experience for the infant. As soon as the infant is large enough most people will start bathing them in a regular bathtub which can also be unsafe for an infant.
An alternative for the standard tub is a new spa baby tub. These little tubs are shaped like a flower pot in which the infant sits. The tub is small enough to provide support and security to the infant that is placed in it. Many people who begin using this tub find that their infants begin enjoying their bathing experience and are not as fearful of water.
In addition to maintenance instructions, manufacturers recommendations also specify the age and weight maximums for children’s furniture and equipment. When an infant is growing, parents sometimes do not notice that they have outgrown a piece of furniture so it is important to keep the instruction manual in a place where it can be reviewed regularly.
Evaluating and assessing the items that are used for an infant on a regular basis will help to keep the child safe and healthy. When equipment is regularly checked, it is possible to replace the furniture on a schedule that can save money and time. Planning on impending needs will allow a parent to find new furniture and equipment for their infant when it is on sale.
